Forest Diorama

Image
I had this one in mind for a smaller Armies on Parade display for a Corvus Cabal Warcry band. I have a large woods behind where I live and there are a lot of crows about and that's where the idea originated, I wanted a Corvus Cabal war band who hunted in the forests of Ghyran, but were heading out to the Eightpoints to join Archaon's ranks. My diorama would be their origin story, of sorts. My other half already had the Awakened Wyldwood box that came with 3 trees, so the idea kinda of grew from there.  I knew I didn't want it to be huge, asides from my goblin cave I made last year, it's been a while since I've made scenery/diorama. It was a regular thing when I was a kid, I even made a cathedral out of graph paper one time, only to reproduce the whole monastery for an art class end of year project, that I also used to help get me into art college. So I'm a bit rusty and it's always a good idea to go easy when you're trying to get back into something...

Raptoryx - Chaotic Beasts

Image
As we are currently in lockdown, and I have no painting competitions to do I have decided to try and get as much off my desk as possible. Including these guys, that have been sat gathering dust for the last 8 months. They've been done to table top standard and done mostly with Contrast paints to make it as quick as possible. The first one I did on its own just as a colour test, using a bearded vulture as my inspiration, as they remind me of vultures hunting across a savannah in search of carrion or unwary adventurers.  Just a note if you haven't already built yours, don't stick them to their bases until you've painted them. They are really low to the base and a pain to paint underneath with the base in the way.  Base coat them with wraith bone spray and then I did the following process to paint mine up. Base coats:  Head - Basilicanum Grey Body - Gryph-hound orange Wings, feathers, tail tip, claws, spikes (not wing-claws), back of ruffle - Black ...

Warcry Furies

Image
(step by step pictures to follow) I just wanted table top standard with these guys, something that would look better than just plastic! Below is a pretty brief guide of what I did with mine, only thing I found with these guys is that they are a bit fiddly in places and I hadn't done the smoothest of builds with them. Models were base coated with Wraithbone spray and then the skin was covered with Gryph Charger Grey (c), followed by a wash of Black Templar (c). Highlights were done with Dawnstone watered down and then edge highlight was Dawnstone mixed with Wraithbone, about a 60/40 mix. Beard and underneath of wings painted in Khorne Red, then in Blood Angels Red (c), highlighted with Evil Sunz Red. Claws and horns painted with Skeleton Horde (c), shaded with Snakebite Leather (c) and highlighted with Wraitbone. The dagger was painted in Leadbelcher then painted over with Typhus Corrosion and heavily dry brushed over with Stormhost Silver. For the base I used Stirla...

Untamed Beasts

Image
After spending many hours building and painting the models from the Warcry box set I have finally got round to painting the Untamed Beasts. Both these and the Iron Golems were painted following the Warhammer TV guide. If you haven't already seen them, I do recommend them as they are very helpful! I have only painted the leader as a test so far but was very pleased with the results, even more so considering it only took me 3 hours to paint! I have now started painting the rest of them in the exact same method. For this video please click on the link below. Untamed Beasts Painting Guide To being with all the miniatures have been spray painted with Wraithbone and then any gaps touched up with the paint from the pot. I varied the darkness a little to put some variation in their skin tones, for a couple of the minis I used Guilliman's Flesh straight from the pot and I have started highlight the guy, second in on the right with Cadium Fleshtone. Those with lighter s...
