Dryad Bust & Grisaille Painting

Image
This gorgeous bust is by Creepytables. I recommend looking at their stuff as they sell high quality miniatures/busts. This lady is insanely detailed and is my first foray into bust painting. I have been wanting to paint something like this for months and have been scouring the internet for models that do not have women sculpted with half their clothes missing (this is a bugbear of mine and a whole other topic for another time/rant).  Having just attempted a hand painted zenithal on my Mistweaver (see post) I wanted to try this again on this model, having since discovered that this is an actual technique! Called Grisaille, which is a form of underpainting. So, I will be doing a Grisaille painting, by blocking in light in grey tones before even going anywhere near it with colour.  My vision for the model is spring greens and the flowers, which to me look like peonies, I want to do quite a light colour with a faded blend of complementary colour to her leaves. I want to also tr

Warcry Furies

(step by step pictures to follow) I just wanted table top standard with these guys, something that would look better than just plastic! Below is a pretty brief guide of what I did with mine, only thing I found with these guys is that they are a bit fiddly in places and I hadn't done the smoothest of builds with them. Models were base coated with Wraithbone spray and then the skin was covered with Gryph Charger Grey (c), followed by a wash of Black Templar (c). Highlights were done with Dawnstone watered down and then edge highlight was Dawnstone mixed with Wraithbone, about a 60/40 mix. Beard and underneath of wings painted in Khorne Red, then in Blood Angels Red (c), highlighted with Evil Sunz Red. Claws and horns painted with Skeleton Horde (c), shaded with Snakebite Leather (c) and highlighted with Wraitbone. The dagger was painted in Leadbelcher then painted over with Typhus Corrosion and heavily dry brushed over with Stormhost Silver. For the base I used Stirla

Mistweaver Saih

Mistweaver Saih 05/11/19 I decided to try something different with this mini. Wise or not, I decided to paint on a zenithal highlight, instead of spraying one on. Three reasons for this, 1) the air brush annoys the hell out of me in how quickly it gets clogged up, 2) I wanted to save my lungs and not use a rattle can, and 3) I just wanted to see how it would turn out.  I think I have been somewhat bolstered by my success with Lady Olynder, having won all the categories in the Masters section at my local Warhammer shop with her. That and that one painting seems to have shifted my perspective slightly when it comes to painting.  I have sprayed zenithal on miniatures before, but I always put the paint on too thick so it obscured the light/shadows provided by the technique. Not this time! This time I'm going to use glazes like I did with Olynder. Yes, it is more time consuming, but for this mini it is the journey that interests me more than reaching the end. (My futu

Lady Olynder

Image
Lady Olynder The next painting competition at my local Warhammer store is to do with wizards and halloween, so I decided to finally paint up my Lady Olynder, whom I've had sat in my painting pile for the last 6 months! She is fiddly as hell and so very delicate! After a test assembly, I decided to paint the corset first then build the lower part of the dress. I will paint the hair, veil and other bits and pieces separately. I have 4 weeks to get her done and everything else to make her look halloween'y. We will see... Bit more progress. Decided to continue my tackling of red and making it brighter without turning it completely orange or pink. I'm happy with how it's going so far. I started off with Celestra Grey base followed by Mephiston Red. I then put on top of this Blood Angels Red (c), this seems to give a richer red colour. For the shadows I mixed Blood Angels Red with Ork Flesh (c), to give a darker colour. This was a tip I got off YouTube. Gr

Untamed Beasts

Image
After spending many hours building and painting the models from the Warcry box set I have finally got round to painting the Untamed Beasts. Both these and the Iron Golems were painted following the Warhammer TV guide. If you haven't already seen them, I do recommend them as they are very helpful! I have only painted the leader as a test so far but was very pleased with the results, even more so considering it only took me 3 hours to paint! I have now started painting the rest of them in the exact same method. For this video please click on the link below. Untamed Beasts Painting Guide To being with all the miniatures have been spray painted with Wraithbone and then any gaps touched up with the paint from the pot. I varied the darkness a little to put some variation in their skin tones, for a couple of the minis I used Guilliman's Flesh straight from the pot and I have started highlight the guy, second in on the right with Cadium Fleshtone. Those with lighter s
